A facelift is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to address visible signs of facial aging by lifting and repositioning facial tissues, reducing excess skin and improving the contours of the face, jawline and neck. Rather than automatically focusing on the lower face, our surgeons assess the face from the upper face down — including the brow, eyes, cheeks, jawline and neck — to understand how the different areas have changed with age. Where appropriate, your surgeon may recommend addressing the upper face before, or together with, the middle and lower face. This top-down approach can help create better balance between the different areas of the face rather than simply tightening the lower face. Depending on your individual facial ageing and the surgeon's assessment, your treatment plan may therefore include a facelift together with procedures such as a brow lift, eyelid surgery, neck lift or facial fat grafting. A Top-Down Approach to Facial Rejuvenation
One of our facial surgeons has spent considerable time studying modern facelift and facial rejuvenation techniques, including attending international conferences where he has studied the work of leading facial plastic surgeons such as Dr Michael Nayak.
This experience has influenced the way he approaches facial ageing, particularly the sequence in which different areas of the face should be addressed.
Facial ageing is three-dimensional. A facelift does not simply tighten the skin. When appropriate, he takes a top-down approach to facial rejuvenation, assessing how the upper, middle and lower face have changed with age and considering the relationship between the brow, eyes, cheeks, jawline and neck.
Where there is significant ageing or descent in the upper face, this may mean recommending a brow lift or other upper-face treatment before, or together with, a facelift.
Depending on your individual anatomy and pattern of ageing, he may also consider deeper facial tissues, the neck, brow position or facial volume when developing your surgical plan.
The goal is not simply to tighten the lower face. He looks at how the entire face has changed with age and considers how the different areas work together to create a balanced, natural and harmonious result.

What Does a Facelift Do?
Lifts Sagging Facial Tissues
A facelift can lift and reposition tissues that have descended with age, improving the overall contours of the face.

Types of Facelift
There are several facelift techniques, and the most appropriate approach depends on your facial anatomy, degree of skin laxity, areas of concern and desired outcome.
Deep Plane Facelift
A deep plane facelift works beneath the SMAS layer to reposition deeper facial tissues as a composite layer. It can be particularly useful for addressing midface descent, jowling and loss of definition through the lower face and jawline.
SMAS Facelift
A SMAS facelift works with the superficial muscular aponeurotic system (SMAS), a deeper layer of facial tissue beneath the skin. The surgeon repositions and tightens this layer to improve facial contours and reduce sagging.
Lower Facelift
A lower facelift focuses primarily on the lower face and jawline. It may be appropriate for patients whose main concerns include jowling, loose skin and loss of definition around the lower face.
Mid-Facelift
A mid-facelift focuses on the middle portion of the face, including the cheeks. It may be considered where there is descent or loss of definition in the midface.
Neck Lift
A neck lift may be performed separately or in combination with a facelift where there is significant loose skin, muscle laxity or fullness in the neck. Depending on your individual anatomy, the surgeon may recommend additional techniques to improve the neck contour. These can include platysmaplasty (tightening of the neck muscles), removal of excess fat, or other specialised neck-contouring procedures. In some patients, the surgeon may also consider treatment of the submandibular salivary glands where enlarged or prominent glands contribute to fullness or lack of definition beneath the jaw. This is a specialised procedure and is not routinely required or included in a standard facelift package. Your surgeon will determine whether it is appropriate for you.
Chin and Jawline Contouring
The position and projection of the chin can affect the overall balance of the face and jawline. Where appropriate, the surgeon may recommend chin or jawline treatment as part of a broader facial rejuvenation plan.
Can a Facelift Be Combined With Other Procedures?
A facelift is often combined with other cosmetic procedures. Combining procedures may allow several areas of facial aging to be addressed during the same surgical plan. The surgeon will determine whether combined procedures are appropriate based on your health, anatomy and the overall extent of surgery.

Before you travel, we collect your medical information and photographs and send these to your surgeon for a preliminary assessment. This allows the surgeon to review your case and provide an initial recommendation.

During your consultation in Thailand, the surgeon will:

Facelift Procedure
Facelift is performed under general anaesthesia. Your Patient Coordinator will be with you on the day of surgery to provide support.
Incisions
Incisions are made in carefully selected locations, commonly around the ears and within or near the hairline. The exact incision pattern depends on the surgical technique.
Additional Procedures
If a neck lift, brow lift, eyelid surgery, fat grafting or another procedure has been included in your surgical plan, this is usually performed at the same time.
Closure
The incisions are carefully closed and dressings are applied.
Recovery
You are monitored in the recovery area before being transferred to your hospital room.
Facelift Scarring
A facelift creates scars at the incision sites. Incisions are generally positioned around the ears and, depending on the technique, within or near the hairline.
The length and location of the scars depend on the surgical technique and the extent of surgery.
Your surgeon will discuss the expected incision pattern and scarring during your consultation.
Scars gradually change in appearance as they mature and generally become less noticeable over time.
