What Is a Mummy Makeover?
A mummy makeover is a combination of cosmetic procedures designed to address changes to the body following pregnancy, breastfeeding and weight changes.
Common concerns may include:
● Loose abdominal skin
● Abdominal muscle separation following pregnancy
● Stubborn areas of excess fat
● Loss of breast volume
● Sagging breasts
● Changes in body proportions
The procedures included in a mummy makeover are not the same for every patient. Your surgeon will assess your individual anatomy and recommend the combination of procedures that is most appropriate for you.
Mummy Makeover Procedures
A mummy makeover may include two or more procedures depending on your individual needs.
Breast Surgery
Breast surgery may be used to restore breast volume, improve breast shape or reduce breast size and lift the breasts.
Options may include:
● Breast Augmentation – uses implants to restore or increase breast volume.
● Breast Lift – reshapes and lifts breasts that have become sagging or deflated.
● Breast Reduction & Lift – reduces breast size and weight while lifting and reshaping the breasts.
Your surgeon will recommend the most appropriate breast procedure based on your breast tissue, skin quality, breast position and desired outcome.
Tummy Tuck
A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) removes excess abdominal skin and fat and may tighten separated abdominal muscles where appropriate.
A tummy tuck may be recommended when pregnancy or significant weight changes have resulted in:
● Loose abdominal skin
● Abdominal muscle separation
● A weakened or stretched abdominal wall
● Excess tissue that does not respond to diet and exercise
Liposuction
Liposuction may be included to remove localised areas of excess fat and improve overall body contour.
Depending on your surgical plan, areas such as the waist, flanks, abdomen, hips, thighs or back may be treated.
Other Procedures
Other procedures may sometimes be considered as part of an individually planned mummy makeover.
Your surgeon will determine whether additional procedures are appropriate and whether they can safely be performed as part of your surgical plan.
Not every procedure can or should be combined. The final combination of procedures will be determined by your surgeon based on your health, anatomy and overall surgical plan.
Am I a Good Candidate for a Mummy Makeover?
A mummy makeover may be suitable if you:
Have completed or are close to completing your family
Have excess abdominal skin or localised areas of stubborn fat
Have sagging breasts or changes in breast shape
Are in generally good health
Are a non-smoker or willing to stop smoking before and after surgery
Have stopped breastfeeding for at least 6 months
You should tell your surgeon about:
Previous abdominal or breast surgery
Breast feeding
Medications you take
Medical conditions
Previous complications with anaesthesia or surgery
Any plans for future pregnancy

Before you travel, we collect your medical information and photographs and send these to your surgeon for a preliminary assessment. This allows the surgeon to review your case and provide an initial recommendation.
If you have questions about the surgeon's preliminary recommendation, we are happy to go back to the surgeon with your questions so you can feel comfortable and informed before you travel.
During your consultation in Thailand, your surgeon will:
Review your medical history
Examine your breasts and abdomen
Discuss your concerns and goals
Explain the recommended combination of procedures
Discuss incision placement and expected scarring
Explain recovery requirements
Confirm your final surgical plan
Your in-person consultation allows the surgeon to examine you and confirm the final surgical plan before you proceed with surgery.
Pre-Operative Assessment
Before surgery, the hospital will complete the medical assessments required for your procedure.
Depending on your age, medical history, the procedures being performed and hospital requirements, these may include:
Blood tests
ECG
Physical examination
Medical history assessment
Chest X-ray where required
Breast imaging such as mammogram or ultrasound where appropriate
The exact tests required will be determined by the hospital and medical team based on your individual circumstances.
Mummy Makeover Procedure
A mummy makeover is performed under general anaesthesia.
Your Patient Coordinator will be with you on the day of surgery to provide support.
1 Incisions
The surgeon marks the areas to be treated and confirms the planned procedures and incision locations.
2 Procedures
The surgeon assesses the overall body proportions and contours the treated areas according to the surgical plan. Where breast surgery is included, the surgeon performs the planned augmentation, lift or reduction and reshapes the breast tissue as required.
Where a tummy tuck is included, excess abdominal skin and tissue are removed and the abdominal muscles repaired.
Where liposuction is included, the surgeon removes targeted areas of excess fat to improve body contour and proportions.
3 Closure
The incisions are carefully closed and appropriate dressings and garments are applied.
4 Hospital Recovery
You are monitored following surgery and remain in hospital according to your surgeon's recommended recovery plan.
Mummy Makeover Scarring
A mummy makeover involves surgical incisions and therefore scarring.
The location and extent of scarring depend on the procedures performed.
For example:
● A tummy tuck usually produces a horizontal hip to hip scar across the lower abdomen.
● Liposuction involves small incision sites.
Where possible, surgeons position incisions in locations that can be concealed beneath underwear or clothing.
Breast lift or breast reduction surgery may involve scars around the areola and/or vertically down the breast and along the breast crease, depending on the technique used.
Breast augmentation surgery involves small scars, usually placed in the breast crease, around the areola or in the armpit depending on the surgical approach. Scars generally fade and become less noticeable over time.
