Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty vs Traditional Rhinoplasty: What’s the Difference?
If you’ve been researching rhinoplasty, you’ve probably come across the term “ultrasonic rhinoplasty” and wondered: Is it actually different from a traditional nose job? And which one would be better for me. Honestly, we understand why this can feel confusing. There are so many different rhinoplasty techniques and terms online that it can be difficult to know what actually matters when you're choosing your surgery.
So, let’s keep it simple.
First, What Is Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty?
Ultrasonic rhinoplasty, sometimes called Piezo rhinoplasty, uses ultrasonic technology to reshape the nasal bones. Rather than relying entirely on traditional instruments to reshape the bone, the surgeon uses a specialized device designed to work more precisely on the bone while limiting disruption to the surrounding soft tissue. This can be useful when changes to the nasal bridge or bones are needed. And while you may hear people describe ultrasonic rhinoplasty as a “new” type of nose job, it’s really better thought of as one of the techniques a surgeon can use during rhinoplasty.
So, What Is Traditional Rhinoplasty?
Traditional rhinoplasty uses conventional surgical instruments to reshape the bone and cartilage of the nose. It has been used successfully for many years and can still be an excellent option depending on what you want to achieve. The important thing is that there isn't one technique that's automatically right for everyone. Your surgeon needs to look at your nose, your facial proportions, your breathing, your cartilage and bone structure, and — perhaps most importantly — what you actually want your nose to look like.
Which One Should You Choose?
This is probably the question you’re really asking. And our answer is: don’t choose the technique first — choose the result you want first. For example, perhaps you want a straighter bridge. Maybe you want a more refined tip. Perhaps you’ve always felt that your nose doesn’t quite suit your face. Or maybe you’ve had an old injury that’s affected both the appearance and function of your nose. Your surgeon can then recommend the technique that makes the most sense for your individual situation.
